The Effectiveness Verification of Integrated Elderly Play Therapy for the Older People Living Alone in a Urban and Rural Complex Area: Focusing on the Depression and Interpersonal Relationships

|
The aims of this study was to investigate the effects of integrated elderly play therapy(IEPT) on the depression and interpersonal relationship of the elderly person living alone in the urban-rural complex area. For this purpose, 80 elderly people aged 65 or older (40 experimental group and 40 control group) among the elderly people who were living alone in the urban and rural complex area of D metropolitan city. The program was performed for a total of 8 weeks (once a week, every 90 minutes) in the experimental group. The study period was from March 7 to July 14, 2017 in first group (20 experimental groups) and second groups (20 experimental groups). The analytical method for compared before and after none-identical control group was measured by the independent sample t-test, the ANCOVA, and the corresponding sample t-test for pre-, post-, and 10 weeks follow-up test. The results showed that the depression of the experimental group was effectively decreased after the implementation of the IEPT, and the results of the follow-up test showed that there was a sustained effect. Interpersonal relationship was increased to a significantly, and the results of the follow-up test showed that the effect was also maintained. Based on the results of this study, I discussed the effects of the IEPT on the depression and interpersonal relationships of the elderly living alone in the urban and rural complex areas, and suggested the practical and policy activation of IEPT for psychosocial well-being.
